World Backup Day is Tomorrow!

We’ve talked about this may times and now you have an annual reminder.

March 31st is World Backup Day.  Just like changing batteries on your fire alarms during daylight savings, the day before April Fools Day is the date to remember to check that your backups are working properly.

Even after a number of years of our (and the tech community) “preaching” how important it is to back up your data, some people still are not.  Your computer can break suddenly. Your backups may not be saving the stuff you really need.  Take this day to confirm you’re protected and rest easy for a bit anyway.

Online backup is our best recommendation. It’s inexpensive, even the backups are backed up again, and you can recover it from anywhere in the world.

Cost for most people: $60/year.

Happy World Backup Day!

Back up your data!

It’s ridiculously inexpensive to have totally secure, redundant, online backup.  $60 per year.  You can even support your local economy by choosing CrashPlan as your backup.  www.crashplan.com. They’re based in Minneapolis.

Cost of a hard drive crash?  $240 to, wait for it, $2,000 or more just to get your data back.  Even then there’s never a guarantee it can be recovered.  Add to that the cost of downtime while the drive is being processed.

If you’re not 100% sure your backups are good, give us a call.  Within a short window we can confirm your peace of mind.

Happy computing – and Happy Holidays!

Back ups – Are you sure yours is 100% effective?

At least 2 or 3 times each month we encounter clients who have been religiously following their backup routine.  But….

They put in todays tape, take yesterdays tape home or somewhere offsite.  Perhaps they back up onto a flash drive or external hard drive.  Or they’ve subscribed to one of the inexpensive online backup providers who back up everyday.  (Note:  we love online backup.)

The only problem is,  it’s not backing up what needs to be backed up.

Too many times a business will believe they’re doing what they’re supposed to in order to safeguard their information in case of a crash or natural disaster.  Too many times it’s not actually doing what it’s supposed to.   Or it’s insufficient for the requirements of their industry.

Example:  Did you know that Accounting and Bookkeeping firms must maintain their online backup within the United States?  The data cannot exist beyond our borders, even if encrypted.

This week, Computer Wrangler is seeking small businesses who aren’t absolutely, positively, without doubt, 100% certain their backups are effective.  This cuts across all industries from pest control services to insurance agents.

We’re offering for the next two weeks an audit of backups with grades from A to F.  And, we’ll provide you or your referral with the exact steps to take to make certain the backups are legit and safe.  Cost:  $129.
